
Dext (formerly Receipt Bank) is a cloud-based accounting tool that helps businesses and accountants manage receipts, invoices, and financial documents efficiently. By sharing access with your accountant, you allow them to view, categorise, and export your financial data directly to your accounting software — saving time and ensuring accuracy.
Step 1: Sign In to Your Dext Account
What to Do:
Go to https://app.dext.com and log in using your administrator (owner) credentials.
Dashboard Look:
You’ll arrive on your Dext homepage showing sections like Inbox, Costs, Sales, Bank, Clients, and Connections.
Step 2: Go to “Account Settings”
What to Do:
Click on your Profile Icon (top-right corner of the page), then select Account Settings or Users (the exact name may vary slightly depending on your subscription type).
Dashboard Look:
A menu will appear showing tabs like My Profile, Users, Account Details, and Integrations.
Step 3: Open the “Users” Section
What to Do:
Select Users from the settings menu.
This page lists all existing users with access to your Dext account, including administrators and accountants.
Dashboard Look:
You’ll see a table showing each user’s name, email, and role (Admin, User, or Accountant).
Step 4: Invite Your Accountant
What to Do:
Click Add a User or Invite User (depending on your view).
Enter your accountant’s name and email address in the fields provided.
Dashboard Look:
A pop-up form will appear asking for the user’s details and permission level.
Step 5: Assign the Correct Role and Access
What to Do:
Under Role, select Accountant or Admin (depending on the level of access you wish to grant).
- Accountant Role → Allows access to client data, document uploads, and integrations with accounting software.
- Admin Role → Grants full permissions to manage account settings, billing, and all submissions.
Dashboard Look:
You’ll see checkboxes or dropdowns allowing you to fine-tune access rights before saving.
Step 6: Send the Invitation
What to Do:
After confirming the role and permissions, click Send Invitation.
Your accountant will receive an email from Dext with a secure access link.
Dashboard Look:
You’ll see a confirmation message stating that the invitation has been sent successfully.
Step 7: Accountant Accepts the Invitation
What to Do:
Your accountant must open the invitation email and click Accept Invitation.
They’ll either sign in with an existing Dext account or create one if they’re new to the platform.
Dashboard Look:
Once accepted, their name and role will appear under the Users list in your Dext account.
How Many Users Can Dext Have?
Dext allows multiple users depending on your plan:
- Business Plans: Typically include multiple user seats (check your plan under Account → Billing).
- Accountant/Bookkeeper Plans: Allow unlimited client access via the Dext Partner Portal.
Quick Tip
If your accountant already uses Dext for Accountants, you can alternatively:
- Ask them for their Dext Partner Invite Link, or
- This method simplifiesthe connection and ensures smooth data sharing between both accounts.
Provide your business email so they can add you as a client directly through their Partner dashboard.
